Aprepitant is a selective neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist. Structurally, it is a member of the morpholine class of compounds. Chemically, aprepitant is (2R,3S)-3-[(2R)-2-[(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)methoxy]-3-(4-fluorophenyl)morpholin-4-yl]-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-isoquinolinyl)ethanone. This unique chemical structure allows aprepitant to selectively bind to and block the activity of NK1 receptors in the central nervous system, particularly in the brainstem and vomiting center.Aprepitant is a medication primarily used for the prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and certain other medical procedures.
